My recent experiences have taught me that been employed is not the only solution to a happy life. If you take time to study most undergraduate students you will find that they have a mindset that they will be employed immediately they graduate. Although this happens to some few lucky ones, it is not always the case. My experience is an example of the unlucky graduates who have to tarmac for quite some time before getting any reliable job. By the time I graduated I had high expectations that I would soon be earning about $ 1000 per month. With such anticipation, I ensured I sufficiently played my part. Therefore, my daily routine was to search for employment using all the available methods.
The only solution that I had was self-employment. However, a major problem emerged. Having no capital to startup any kind of business was now the most disturbing problem. Luckily, some short contract job emerged and I was employed for close to a month. Immediately I realized this was the only chance I had to access any money that I would use to startup a business. At the end of the contract, I was offered a package that would have not been sufficient to sustain a family for a month. Putting all the other concerns aside, I used the money to invest in a small business that could earn me some money.
The business began picking up gradually and has been growing from day to day. In that way I have some self-employment that I can rely on as I wait for my lucky day which could possibly come from the business I invested in.
The most important lesson I have learned through the experiences is that you have to keep focused in life even when everything seems to have fallen apart. The self-employment job too is often faced by some challenges but I have to remain focused if I have to succeed. The most important thing is making maximum use of an opportunity once you realize it.
